Though I'm actually a few blocks outside the city limits, I have to say I'm very much interested in knowing exactly what went on.

By most accounts, and from what I saw of him on G10, he was certainly capable and competent. I'd like to know what the firing was really about. As it stands, the impression I have, not from Bauer but from remarks like "chance after chance", is that he was fired for not giving answers those four council members wanted to hear.

It did seem odd and out of character for the text messages to come up. It seems a complete non-sequitur. Why did he bring *those* up? Bauer does not strike me as a man who'd do that out of petulance or revenge. I think there will be a bit of a surprise when the reasoning behind that becomes clear.

Then again, he's human like the rest of us. And after having just been shat upon by the council after busting his ass for the city, maybe he was just plain pissed off. Can't really blame him for that, either.

Cheers

I wonder if that includes his phone records (eg text msgs). Sometimes they use personal phones and get partial reimbursement.

Another interesting part is that Bauer references a few late night messages but only one inappropriate text is identified. That is somewhat similar to what Thomas did, where he mentioned four closed sessions but only insinuated that they were about Bauer. Were all the messages inappropriate? Were all the closed sessions about the same issue with Bauer?

@OPAdmin
According to the quotation of his letter, Bauer is waiving any right to privacy to include "all documents; minutes, notes, recordings, evaluations, e-mails, memoranda, between December 31, 2008, and June 10, 2009."

Regardless of how the Jacksonville Daily News initially reported the phrase, it appears that Bauer wants the entire record released.

I've already made a request to the City Clerk's office. Once Bauer signs the official privacy release, I'll be getting copies of everything available.

The waiver was phrased peculiarly--not sure if that's from JDNews end or Bauers. His notes, recordings, emails from Dec to June were always public record. It's only his personnel record that had any privacy, but that was not among those listed.

This whole thing has gotten stickier.

As a result, Bauer has given permission to the City to release the information regarding his firing.

I agree with you. There's no logical reason for the Council to have fired Bauer.

Something that the Jacksonville Daily News hasn't brought up is that Willingham, Sullivan, Williams and Thomas will all be facing re-election in November. It'll be an interesting election, that's for sure.
